Meet Missa, California, diagnosed 2008
"On October 28, 2008, on my oldest daughter's 16th birthday, I was diagnosed with stage 3 GTD. I was so scared. I didn't know what it was or how I got it. All I knew was that I was terrified when the doctors told me that it was cancer.
That day when I found out I had cancer, the doctor started chemo immediately following radiation a week later. I went through 3 different types of chemos because I was getting sick. I spent three days in the hospital getting chemo and two days later I was back in the hospital again. My journey through cancer, chemo, and radiation has made me stronger than I have ever been in my life. I had cancer but cancer never had me
Cancer never brought me to my knees, it brought me to my feet.
I went through chemo for six months and radiation for almost a year. During radiation, the doctors told me some more devastating news-I had stage 4 ovarian cancer. I went through so much depression but I finally rang the survivor bell on April 12th, 2010! Cancer free!
In 2014, four years after I became a survivor, I found out I was going to have my rainbow baby. I was in such shock and disbelief because when I found out I was 7 months pregnant! I was still having my menstrual cycle but I wasn't feeling like I was pregnant. Now my Julian Louis Edmonds is 5 years old and my little monster. I don't wish cancer on anyone, but I do wish cancer got cancer and died.
I participate in The American Cancer Society's annual Relay For Life where I became more blessed; this is where I met Cindy, a choriocarcinoma awareness advocate and survivor. She is the only person and survivor whom I have ever met that had the same type of cancer I did. I am so blessed to have her as my friend and survivor sister. I would have not been able to get through a lot of things without her."
