Meet Armela, diagnosed 2017, Albania
"I found out that I had cancer in the worst way. We were really excited to become parents. We thought I was pregnant but in fact it was not a baby but cancer. In August 2017, I was diagnosed with GTD (gestational trophoblastic disease), a difficult and rare type of tumor. I was only 27 years old. I was hospitalized for almost two years, and in 2019 I had a difficult and rare surgery. Afterwards I had to go through 7 cycles of chemotherapy (ema/co) in Italy.
It was the most difficult time of my life but I faced the fear and got up stronger than before. I received endless support from my family, friends and the most crucial support from my husband. He is my best friend and we fought together; even cancer can meet with us.
It has been 7 months since I have been cancer free. I think and believe I am a cancer survivor. It is difficult as it exists that fear of getting cancer tomorrow (fear of recurrence), but I am stronger for myself and my lovies. I strongly believe that everything will be perfect."
